Notice of Public Meeting

On Friday November 30, 2001 from 6:30-7:30P, the KPFT Interim Local Advisory Board (I-LAB) will hold a public meeting at Leisure Learning Unlimited, 2990 Richmond Rd, Houston. The reason for this meeting is to consider the appointment of Teresa Allen as the KPFT area LAB representative to the transitional Pacifica National Governing Board, as described below.

All interested members of the community are welcome to attend.

On November 28, 2001 at 6:30PM, the KPFT Local Advisory Board headed by Susan Darrow (the "D-LAB") met at the DoubleTree Hotel in Houston with the express mission to elect a new member to the transitional Pacifica National Board (PNB) from its ranks. This followed a unanimous directive of the PNB members attending the Nov 16-18th national meeting of the Pacifica Governing Board that such LAB appointments to the transitional PNB take place no later than the week of November 26th.

At the November 28 meeting, the entire voting membership of the D-LAB was present (including Susan Darrow, Doug Darrow, Barney Goodman, Russell Setzekorn, David Eisen and Teresa Allen). Teresa Allen, a KPFT D-LAB member who fulfills all the requirements set by the PNB, was proposed as a nominee. Several audience members spoke strongly in favor of the nomination and of Teresa's links to both the local KPFT music community and the national Pacifica leadership. A petition with names of over 120 KPFT listeners was presented in support of her appointment as well as testimonial letters in favor of her appointment from several LAB chairs of other Pacifica cities.

Nobody on the D-LAB spoke against Teresa's nomination. Nonetheless, the D-LAB was unable to proceed to a vote (apparently due to absence of non-voting D-LAB member KPFT General Manager Garland Ganter). The meeting was adjourned without any action being taken on the PNB appointment

A majority of the newly elected members of the KPFT Interim Local Advisory Board (the "I-LAB") attended the November 28 meeting and were concerned about the consequences of this failure to appoint the required PNB member in depriving KPFT and its listeners of adequate representation on the transitional PNB.

It was decided to hold an emergency meeting of the KPFT I-LAB to vote on ratification of KPFT LAB member Teresa Allen as a transitional PNB member.

This notice is to inform all interested parties that this emergency KPFT I-LAB meeting will be held this Friday November 30, 2001 from 6:30-7:30P at Leisure Learning Unlimited Building, 2990 Richmond Ave, Houston, TX (between Kirby Drive and Buffalo Speedway) for the sole purpose of considering Teresa Allen's appointment.

Given the limited notice for this open meeting, public comments on this matter can also be registered on the KPFT forum at http://disc.server.com/Indices/154569.html and will be considered at the meeting.

Thank you.

-D Jones for the KPFT I-LAB
