Some essential details:
We had our ArtCar and our entourage of about 17 or so on bikes, skates, wagons and even veggie- and fruit-filled shopping carts. See the photo album links above for a taste of the creativity. Unfortunately Tom Kennedy's wonderful bus broke down and could not make it into the parade, but Tom showed up on a bicycle to join our entry.
Contact Edwin Johnston to send in photos of your own to be part of the growing albums archiving this event. Need more photos of ArtCar Parade, ArtCar Ball and 1st Amendment Awards Banquet.
KPFT will run an ArtCar in the annual Houston ArtCar parade on Saturday, April 27, 2002.
Below are photos of the modified ArtCar to reflect a KPFT/Pacifica theme.
The ArtCar is parked in the backyard of KPFT for work by volunteers. We will also need people to join in the parade itself with us, using their bicycles, rollerskates, etc. for a large parade contingent from KPFT. National board member, Teresa Allen suggests all KPFT Local Advisory Board members participate in this parade wearing KPFT t-shirts and handing out program schedules during the event.

At the KPFT backyard party on Saturday 3/30/02, local peace activist and HCPR member, Lee Loe announced that KPFT has a reserved spot in this year's ArtCar parade. Lee Loe is donating her ArtCar to KPFT for this event. It is the "Save the Children of Iraq" ArtCar, which we will modify with a KPFT/Pacifica theme. Lee Loe's ArtCar was the featured installation at the ArtCar Museum for their "Civil Society" show back in late 2000. It has run in two ArtCar parades previously, each time creating a fairly big controversy. So let's get together and create something magical to promote KPFT to the public.
Maybe we'll even win a prize!
Edwin Johnston and Dr. George Reiter will head up the organizing team to transform Lee's ArtCar, since we were some of the main designers who created it initially. The ArtCar is currently parked in KPFT's backyard so people can come and work on it. This webpage will be updated to let everyone know about design meetings and work schedules. But not only do we need volunteers to modify the ArtCar, we will need a bunch of people to participate in the parade itself, including bicyclists, rollerskaters and other wheeled vehicle types - we're gonna roll en masse! Participants may also wish to attend the special Artists' Art Car Ball, on Thurs., April 25, beginning at 7pm, featuring musician, Mojo Nixon.
