The Listeners of Houston radio station KPFT are currently accepting nominations for the upcoming election of the KPFT Interim Local Advisory Board.
This elected board will be composed of 12-24 listeners in the KPFT/Houston signal area and will be responsible for:
- Fulfilling the duties and requirements of the community advisory board for radio station KPFT on a temporary basis until such time as a permanent LAB is established.
- Organizing efforts for the direct listener election of future members of the permanent KPFT LAB, according to the guidelines to be established by the Pacifica Foundation Governing Board. This election to be held no later than November 13 2002.
The KPFT Interim Local Advisory Board will replace the former KPFT LAB, which is currently in violation of Federal Law and Pacifica Foundation By-laws. Details here

To submit your name as a candidate for the KPFT Interim LAB
- You must be residing currently in the KPFT signal area and must be willing to support direct listener election of the future permanent KPFT LAB.
- You must request an application form from KPFT Interim Elections or by mailing a request to Box 66021, Houston TX 77266-6021.
- You must return by mail (Box 66021, Houston TX 77266-6021), email or fax a completed application by November 11 2001 at 1700 CST. Answering questions 1-5 is recommended, questions 7-15 are voluntary.
- Attendance at the November 14 2001 election described below is encouraged but not required for candidates.
- All candidates will also be permitted to submit a statement regarding their candidacy and their concept of the Pacifica mission (300 words or less) to the election organizers by email and to make a statement and answer voter questions at the elections meetings on November 14 2001 (5 minutes or less).
To vote in the election for the KPFT Interim LAB
- You must be reside currently in the KPFT signal area
- You must attend the open public election held on November 14 2001 from 6:30-8:30P at the Houston Lesbian and Gay Community Center, 803 Hawthorne Street, Houston, TX
OR
You must submit a written statement to the election organizers stating that (1) you reside currently in the KPFT signal area and (2) the name of the person who will be casting your proxy vote. No more than one proxy vote can be cast by any single individual attending the November 14 election.
